Why the workers’ comp campaign matters to us

September 21, 2018

The Women of Inspiration and other injured workers met with MPP Rima Berns-McGown today. Women of Inspiration with MPP Rima Berns-McGownIt was a really supportive meeting as we spoke to her about our personal stories and connected it to the Workers’ Comp Is A Right (WCIAR) campaign demands. Our greatest point of discussion was the deep poverty, hopelessness and isolation that injured workers face when the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board denies them compensation – and the resulting tunnel of poverty that they tumble into.

MPP Rima Berns-McGown, who is the Critic, Poverty and Homelessness, will be making a member’s statement in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday and will be reading our petition at Queens Park.

(Update:  Sep. 25 video of the MPP’s statement in the House)
