Older Injured Workers Demand Justice
Over the past three decades, older injured workers’ rights have continued to erode as their compensation is cut off when they turn 65. This is a direct consequence of discriminatory laws in the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA).
According to the law,
“Section 43(1)(c) of the WSIA allows the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) to end LOE benefits when an injured worker reaches 65 years of age, or two years after the injury if the injury occurs after age 63.”
Living costs have continued to rise while wages have been stagnant. Injured workers are often forced deeper into poverty after the age of 65 and while wealthy corporations receive billions of dollars in rebates from the WSIB.
Take Action – Rights Don’t Retire!
