“Dwindling WSIB coverage and underhanded tricks…”

March 1, 2018

Yesterday in the Legislative Assembly, Paul Miller, MPP for Hamilton East-Stoney Creek, called out the government for the state of Ontario’s workers’ compensation system. The Poverty Reduction critic for the NDP addressed cuts to health care benefits, urging the government to urged read IAVGO’s reports on the Board’s healthcare spending (Bad Medicine) and decision-making (No Evidence).

At the same time he drew attention to the Board’s practice of “deeming” – “clawing back WSIB cheques based on made-up jobs they imagine injured people could be doing…” – acknowledging the efforts of the Hamilton & District Injured Workers’ Support Group in speaking out against this practice.

The issues addressed here  – “No more phantom jobs” and “Listen to injured workers’ treating healthcare professionals”,  together with “Stop cutting based on pre-existing conditions” – are key demands of ONIWG’s Workers’ Comp Is a Right campaign.
