“High school co-op student dies at work placement” / Marco Chown Oved (Toronto Star, Oct. 1)
17-year-old Niagara student becomes the 3rd co-op student killed in the last 10 months, a tragic reminder that interns and co-op students are not covered by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, yet may be exposed to the same risks as fellow workers.
A government bill [Bill 18, Stronger Workplaces for a Stronger Economy Act] intended to close this loophole has been introduced twice in the Legislative Assembly but has not yet passed into law.
