Standing Cttee report on the WSIB released

The Standing Committee on Government Agencies released its today. The Committee heard from a number of witnesses in July 2012, including the Ontario Legal Clinics’ Workers’ Compensation Network, ONIWG, Harry Arthurs, CUPE, WSIB and employer organizations, and requested further information (provided in the report Appendices). The 91-page report made a number of significant recommendations, including that the Board table steps it has taken to address recommendations of the Arthurs report within 90 days of the Committee report’s being tabled, provide historical data on claims, appeals and outcomes. The Committee also called on the Board to reconsider its recent Appeals policy changes, particularly the restrictions on oral hearings. The Progressive Conservative and New Democratic members of the Committee have issued dissenting opinions.
