Injured Workers Community Legal Clinic and the injured worker community is deeply saddened by the passing of valued community member and friend, Jim Nugent. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his partner Christine Nugent and their family. A lifelong social justice, peace and human rights advocate, he will be remembered by the injured worker community for his work with Christine on the Justice for Injured Workers newspaper, their participation in our rallies and public events and Jim’s work with the South Asian Women’s Rights Organization.
The following celebrations of his life are being held:
1. The Nugent Family are organizing a special gathering in honour of Jim/Pat Nugent . This gathering will take place on Saturday July 16 with a rain date of Sunday July 17. Please drop in to share your stories,hugs,and condolences. 2687 County Road 92. Elmvale ON.
This will be a Potluck event, bring any food of your choice, as well as a chair and some sunshine. Stop by anytime from 3 pm until the end of the bonfire. Stay as little or long as you may.
2. The South Asian Women’s Rights Organization will be organizing a celebration of Jim’s political organizing work with them over the years on Saturday July 23 from 2 pm – 4:30 pm at the Oakridge Community Centre, 63 Pharmacy Ave, Scarborough, ON. They welcome you to bring any pictures or written messages of your memories with Jim to add to their tribute collection. The collection will be a cherished keepsake for the Nugent family. 3. The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) remembers its members who have passed away. Jim Nugent will be remembered at the yearly Memorial event July 31st at 10:30am in Ottawa at the Party monument in Beechwood Cemetery. Read CPCML In Memoriam with a tribute video.
