“Leading woman” injured worker activist receives well-deserved honour

March 14, 2016

On Sunday March 13,  Maryam Nazemi was presented with the “Leading Women” award by Richmond Hill MPP and Liberal cabinet minister Reza Moridi. The community leadership award recognizes Maryam’s untiring work to have all workers of Ontario covered by the protection of workers’ compensation legislation. It also recognizes her support for other injured workers in distress, as well as her work to educate new immigrants on health and safety laws.

“I am very happy to receive this award”, she said. “I will now push even harder on the issue of universal coverage. This affects thousands of Ontarians, many of whom are women and vulnerable workers. It’s time for the government to take the lead.”

Maryam is looking forward to meeting the Minister of Health of Ontario to make him aware how lack of WSIB coverage (paid via employers) undermines our taxpayer-funded health care system.Maryam Nazemi receives Leading Women award from MPP Reza Moridi

A long-time member of the Women of Inspiration , Maryam was also recipient recently of the 2015 Injured Worker Activist award for her many years of advocacy for a fair compensation system.
