Tuesday’s guest speaker is Dr. Lacey Croft, guest speaker Dr. Lacey Croft, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Ottawa and a sociological researcher of work and labour. Working alongside Dr. Steven Bittle, Lacey is part of a four-year Wellcome Trust-funded (UK) study of work-related suicide across Canada, the UK, and France.
In Canada, work-related suicide is legally unrecognized and statistically unrecorded. In the absence of a formal framework, public sources—including legal decisions, media reporting, and coroner inquests—effectively establish which work-related suicides become visible. This talk draws on preliminary findings from the Canadian arm of an international Wellcome Trust-funded research project to consider whose work-related deaths by suicide reach even the informal public record in Canada, and whose do not.
