This week John Santos & Arn Keeling will present on the History of occupational health and safety struggles in Canada’s mining industry , highlighting the conflict between labour and management over who should have control over the workplace environment. The presentation will also suggest mineworkers’ unions were one of the most important, often unacknowledged contributors to the environmental movement in Canada.
Among their published works: Mining and Communities in Northern Canada: History, Politics and Memory; Mining Country: A History of Canada’s Mines and Miners, and The Price of Gold: Mining Pollution and Resistance in Yellowknife.
