Community meeting on proposed workers’ comp changes

|

IWC is hosting a community meeting for injured/ill workers and allies on the Government of Ontario’s proposed significant changes to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. The specific details of the legislation are not fully available at this point, but the proposed changes include:

  • Raising loss of earnings benefits from 85% of pre-injury earnings to 90% of pre-injury earnings.
  • Ending the mandatory Age 65 benefit cut-off.
  • Extending mandatory WSIB coverage to healthcare and support workers in privately operated retirement homes, group homes and foster homes, who may not have been covered previously.

These are things injured workers have been asking for for years. Any positive changes to Workers’ Compensation are worth celebrating, and we want to invite you to a community conversation about the proposed changes on Wednesday April 29th at 1pm. We will discuss the details that we know so far, how they might apply to injured workers, and what we can do to make sure these changes are implemented properly and fairly.

The meeting is hybrid, with limited in-person spots at the IWC office (815 Danforth, suite 411).
You’ll need to register whether you are attending in person or online. Please do that here or by visiting tinyurl.com/IWApril29.
