Today in the Assembly Laura Albanese (Lib – York South – Weston) introduced Bill 155 to amend the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. The legislation would set the rate used to calculate the premium to be paid by employers in the construction industry in respect of independent operators, sole proprietors, partners to be one third of the rate used to calculate the premium in respect of workers. This would be in effect for a period of five years.
The bill aims to address issues raised by small business owners following passage of Bill 119’s mandatory coverage in construction.
