Over 43 years costs go up, but not his WSIB benefit

Injured worker Antonio Mauro, 82, and his representative Orlando Buonastella (IWC) (seen in video) discuss the situation he faces with benefits capped at about 90% of his 1970 salary. Ineligible for cost-of-living adjustments to his WSIB compensation benefits, those he receives from the Old Age Security for the last 10 years have been clawed back.

The changes to the law in 1990 that provided cost-of-living adjustments to those with permanent impairment on full benefits does not apply to older workers like Mr Mauro with pre-1990 injuries, or those on partial benefits (the vast majority) – despite recommendations of a study commissioned by the Ministry of Labour…
