Thunder Bay Tuesday IW online info & advocacy session

|

Join Thunder Bay & District Injured Workers’ Support Group’s Tuesday weekly Zoom session from 10 a.m. to noon. Everyone welcome. Each session will wrap up with a focus on how we can take action on the topics of discussion.

Pam Hopwood is a PhD student supervised by Dr. Ellen MacEachen at the University of Waterloo. She will be joining the Thunder Bay Injured Workers’ Group on Tuesday, March 26 to speak about two topics: Self-employed Personal Care workers and Return-to-work Coordinators.
Her thesis research is focused on self-employed women performing personal care work, who use websites or apps to find jobs. As self-employed workers, these women are not automatically covered by workers’ compensation – yet “Assisting occupations in support of health services” have some of the highest injury rates and lost-time claims in the province. She will share early findings from interviews with 20 women who were self-employed and performed personal care work, focusing on their occupational health and work conditions and their perspectives of risk.
