IWC services in response to COVID-19

March 17, 2020

IWC logo

Our office is closed for in-person client and group meetings, but we are committed to staying connected during this difficult time. We are offering services by telephone, email and online. See contact information below.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have been carefully monitoring the progression of the virus and closely following the advice of Ontario’s public health authorities. As the virus continues to spread in communities across Canada, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer has raised the public risk to ‘serious’. The province of Ontario has declared itself in a state of emergency as of today, Tuesday, March 17, 2020. As such, we recognize the need for supportive action to reduce transmission of the virus and protect our community members.

Our clinic has made the difficult, but important decision to close all walk-in appointments and cancel all in person meetings, outreach events and community activities at our clinic, effective immediately. This includes:

• IWC’s March 30th Annual General Meeting
• Bright Lights Meetings
• Choir
• Women of Inspiration
• Chinese Injured Worker Group Meetings
• Injured Worker Speakers School

These, and all other in-person meetings, will be cancelled until further notice. Our responsive action aims to avoiding over-burdening our healthcare system, which doesn’t have the capacity to handle a sudden surge of cases at once. The best way to do this right now is by limiting social interaction as much as possible. And so, we are closing our doors until further notice, in order to limit the spread of this virus and to protect the most vulnerable of our community.

We continue to provide services remotely

We know that staying connected is extremely important to our injured worker community. We are committed to continuing to do so throughout this difficult time. We are offering services by telephone and online. Please continue connecting with us as you did before, without coming in person.

We will be monitoring our voice messages and e-mails during this time, however it may take longer than usual for us to get back to you. Please be patient, but rest assured that we will still be in touch. We also continue to be engaged in community outreach remotely by phone, skype, email, etc. We look forward to re-opening our doors as soon as possible and beginning our community and in-person meetings.

In the meantime, take care of yourself and each other.

Yours Sincerely,
Injured Workers Community Legal Clinic
